Actress, composer, guitar player, performer and singer.
Sophia Haze is a Brussels singer-songwriter and guitarist exploring a wide range of musical styles such as jazz, rock, pop, and Latin music. Since she was very young, she has been passionate about music and learning from jazz records, music magazines, and radio programs.
As a teenager, she started playing the electric guitar and it was only at the age of 18 that she began training professionally to become a singer. After several years playing in different groups, she embarked on the adventure of this solo project that todays sees the light with her debut single 'Window'. Prior to that, she has been part of the trip hop band Delight In Disorder and the jazz quarted Interplay and performed in the play The Man On The Picture.
'Window' talks about escaping. "Through the window we can observe the world but wa also can start to imagine. Imagine a different reality, a better one. Because if we can't escape physically, at least we can do it with our mind", she says. This single takes us on a journey from the shadows to the light and breaks the frame of this window to finally become free.
Among her inspirations she mentions artists such as Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush, Pj Harvey, Fiona Apple, Björk and Jeff Buckley, so her compositions navigate between jazz and rock. You can catch her live in concert on 6 December in Jacques Pelzer (Liège). She will be accompanied by Dorothée Pietquin on guitar, Agostino Tarantino on bass and Danny Millan on drums.
